Last month in a post about ravioli a wrote about TV series ‘Last Panthers’ and the beautiful, haunting David Bowie’s song in opening credits. I also mentioned my fascination with Bowie, and my little shrine I used to have in my teens, devoted to him. Little did I know he was facing death.
Sometimes death of a person you never met can affect you more than your relative’s.
David Bowie was a brilliant, innovative, intelligent and inspiring musician. But also an actor.
He was in some good and not so good films, sometimes appeared as a himself. I loved watching him in anything, I just loved his voice, singing or talking.
I know people get sentimental about ‘Labyrinth’, because it reminds them of their childhood. I went to the cinema 5 times in a row to watch it, just because of David Bowie. Although the film is so bad that it’s almost good. Almost a classic.
I also watched ‘Hunger’ few times, and I get sentimental about it. Better vampire story than ‘Twilight’ will ever be.
I also watched many times ‘Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence’ just for David Bowie.
But I also loved his little appearances in ‘Zoolander’, brilliant as Telsa in ‘Prestige’, as Andy Warhol in ‘Basquiat’ and absolutely mind blowing in ‘Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me’. And of course as Pilate in ‘Last Temptation of Christ’…
